This EP started with 5 acoustic songs, mostly void of lyrics. I had so many scattered ideas for them and knew the only person I could trust to decipher the creative chaos was Rhys Zacher. And, boy, have we created a monster. I couldn't be more proud.

The title 'Catharsis' came from a good friend, Ben. Simply put, the lyric-writing process for the EP was a purging experience. Fingers down the throat, ridding of everything that plagued my mind at the time.

Midway through last year, I went through a lot of shit, mostly crazy head stuff. An internal war against myself. Writing about it was the best way, the only way, to empty my conscious.

I've never really been a lyricist. In Crystal Cove, I relied on Matt to take on the role of lyricist. But now, with Shirts For Matthew, I have no one else to rely on. It's either I write the words or play instrumental.

It's really fucking scary to think you'll all have a direct line to my headspace at that time. But liberating, too. There are no secrets here. This is me, cut open. Exposed. Bleeding. A shivering mess. It's ruthless honesty.
